  1. Camera

A Reolink RLC-810A, 4K, on its own wire to the box. It gets an address and the time from the box and has no way out to the internet.

  2. Picture

go2rtc is the only thing that talks to the camera, and hands the picture to everything else. Frigate looks for birds in the full 4K picture, scaled to 2560 by 1440, with a large detection model on the graphics card, wherever something moved, as fast as the card goes. It records what it finds.

  3. Sound

A BOYA lavalier microphone on a USB sound card in the box. The yardmic service reads it at 48 kHz for BirdNET-Go, which names every bird it hears, and for the sound of the live view and every recording.

  4. Journal

Everything seen and heard goes over a message hub (Mosquitto) into Abish's journal, a SQLite database. At 9:30 PM a language model on this box writes his entry from it, and a check compares every number in the entry with the journal.

  5. Front door

The box is on a cable to the house's mesh network, with its Wi-Fi as the spare. crowlover.com reaches it through a Cloudflare tunnel: the yard is open to everyone, and the feeding button only after Cloudflare Access checks who you are. Nothing is open on the home router.
